The 2017 Palmetto Challenge is in Full Swing!

Each year, Palmetto Conservation Foundation hosts The Palmetto Challenge to inspire teams of two, three, or four to hike or bike as many miles as possible between March 6 and April 24 on the state’s trails, greenways and sidewalks.

At the start of each week, the team leader will send in their team’s total mileage for the week, which will be recorded and displayed on the PCF website…allowing teams to keep an eye out for the competition!

So, pull out the hiking gear or pump up the bike tires, create a team with a catchy name, and gear up to register for the 2017 Palmetto Challenge!

*Smartphone apps and Fitbits are two methods of tracking the miles. Team registration is free. And yes, a fleet-footed pooch can be half of a team!

Stay Hydrated
Without enough water, your body simply can’t perform as well. If you feel thirsty, your body is already becoming dehydrated. It is hard to drink too much water when you’re physically exerting yourself. Carry plenty of water and remember your pack will get lighter as the day wears on.

The Trail is meant to bring people together—young and old, rich and poor. It’s not just for hard core backpackers, but for families who want to get out into the woods.

WHEN BRINGING A PET on a hike, be sure to keep it on a leash and under control. Don’t forget to pack out pet waste as well.
