Outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy craft ale after a day on the Palmetto Trail are invited to the exclusive launch of “Palmetto Trail Pale Ale” Cans in Spartanburg.

Palmetto Conservation and RJ Rockers Brewing Company have combined their respective passions for the Trail and for micro-brewed beer into the handcrafted ale. Sales will help support and finish the Palmetto Trail. After several months of the beer being available only on draft, the cans are set to be released on February 26th at RJ Rockers Brewing Company starting at 3PM at 226-A West Main Street in Spartanburg.

The Palmetto Trail is South Carolina’s premier pathway for human-powered exploration across the state from the mountains to the sea.

“The Palmetto Trail Ale,” a special blend of hops and malt, will conjure the adventure of Trail treks. The convenience of a can filled with quality, handcrafted ale will appeal to hikers, campers, mountain bikers, and others who prefer to leave glass bottles at home. The brew will also be available on tap and in take-home growlers.

RJ Rockers began brewing beers and ales in Spartanburg, SC, in 1997, and has built an enthusiastic state and regional following. The microbrewery offers five core brands, including the award-winning “Brown-Eyed Squirrel,” a traditional English-style brown ale. Founder and brewer Mark Johnsen fell in love with beer while stationed in Germany as an Army Ranger. Upon returning to the United States, he wanted to share his passion for beer with others.

“RJ Rockers is excited to be able to play a role in finishing the Trail. It is exciting to partner with people who are passionate about what they are doing,” President Henry Depew said. “That passion pays off as we look forward to the State of South Carolina having a great hiking trail!”

“Palmetto Conservation is thrilled to partner with RJ Rockers, a leader in the craft beer industry in South Carolina. RJ Rockers’ company philosophy aligns seamlessly with the mission of the foundation,” Executive Director Natalie Britt said. “The Palmetto Trail Ale exemplifies our passion for local culture, craftsmanship, and the great outdoors.”

RJ Rockers will donate a portion of sales of The Palmetto Trail Pale Ale to the “Finish the Trail” campaign. The Palmetto is the longest Trail and largest Trail construction project in the state. At present, the Trail features 26 passages (350 Trail miles) across South Carolina from Walhalla in the mountains of Oconee County to Awendaw on the coast in Charleston County. Another 150 miles in the Midlands and Upstate remain to be acquired and constructed.

The Palmetto Trail inspires active, healthy living and showcases the state’s diverse natural beauty and fascinating history. Trail passages carry the human-powered traveller across wilderness and backwoods paths, urban bikeways, converted rail-trails, greenways, country roads, and even the steps of the State Capitol. Multiple trailheads make accessing this free public resource easy from anywhere in the state.

RJ Rockers is the latest corporate partner to join Palmetto Conservation’s “Finish the Trail” campaign.
