On Saturday, July 13, our Ladies of the Palmetto Trail hike will take us to the Middle Saluda Passage to hike about 5.5 miles from the Raven Cliff parking area to the Jones Gap visitors center with Phyllis Stoker leading

Group size: up to 10 ladies.

Length: Approximately 5.5 miles of hiking.

Difficulty: Moderate except for the first 1.5 miles which has two sections with steep descents, which would be strenuous. A walking stick or trekking poles might be a great help in those areas. There may be wet sections and or/water crossings on the trail, so bring a change of shoes/socks for the ride home.

Carpool will be from Food Lion parking lot, exit 97 off of I-26 (11107 Broad River Rd, Irmo, SC 29063) Look for us at the area closest to the on/off ramp for I-26. Departure time is 7:00 a.m. Car shuttling will be needed between Jones Gap and Raven Cliff Falls parking area. (Car pooling is at your own risk.).

Or…meet at 9:30 at the Trailhead: Raven Cliff Falls parking area, Geer Highway, Cleveland, SC 29635. From Greenville, drive north on US 276 to Caesars Head State Park, 8155 Geer Highway (This is a good place to use the rest room if needed.) Drive another 1.1 mile and turn right into the parking area for Raven Cliff Falls. If the lot is full, I’ve been told there is an overflow area beyond the lot, on the right. The goal is to be on the trail by 10:00. Parking lots fill up early.

The hike will begin at the Raven Cliff Falls parking area, then follow the Palmetto Trail which also follows the Coldsprings Branch trail, then link up with the Jones Gap trail, possibly have lunch by the Jones Gap falls, then finish up at the Jones Gap State Park Visitor Center. From there we will shuttle back to the car(s) parked at Raven Cliff Falls (about a 30 minute drive).

Bring: Sturdy hiking shoes that can get wet (no open-toe shoes), appropriate clothing, plenty of water, lunch, snacks, bug spray and sunscreen.

Free for PCF Members $10.00 for Non-Members
(Payment can be given the morning of the hike)
