Wear the Right Clothes
Appropriate footwear, socks, and clothing, including rain gear, go a long way towards a comfortable and enjoyable trek. A bandana is great for mopping off sweat, and a good hat and sunscreen will keep you for getting burned, even on cloudy days. The weatherman is not always right, so come prepared for unexpected weather and dress in layers to adjust to temperatures changes.

I enjoy Trail clean-up days and working with volunteers. It's amazing to see them transition from apprehension about being out in nature to exhilaration and excitement when they really begin to experience nature and the beauty of the Palmetto Trail.

STAY ON THE TRAIL. Walk through the mud or puddle and not around it, unless you can do so without going off the trail. Widening a trail by going around puddles, etc. is bad for trail sustainability. Just because it looks easy to cut the corner off of a switchback doesn’t mean it is a good idea. Help preserve the trail by staying on the trail.
