Passage Monitor Responsibilities

    • Responsible for regularly visiting the assigned section of the Palmetto Trail to monitor its condition and reports the findings the Palmetto Conservation Foundation Volunteer Coordinator, Gee Gamàché

  • Qualifications
    • At least 18 years old
    • Enjoys being outside
    • Capable of hiking 5 to 10 miles (less for shorter passages)
    • Clean driving record and background check


  • Training
    • PCF Volunteer Manual
    • Receives on-site introduction to assigned passage by Statewide Volunteer Coordinator or Regional Trail Coordinator, if requested


  • Responsibilities
    • Visits assigned passage at least six times per year (monthly is preferred) and notes trail conditions using the Passage Monitor Inspection Form (Forms will be provided)
    • Submits report within 24 hours after each visit either electronically or by postal service to Gee Gamàché, PCF Statewide Volunteer Coordinator at [email protected]
    • Educate trail users as needed
    • Complies with PCF safety net protocol
    • Practices Leave No Trace Seven Principles
    • Signs volunteer agreement
